Why am I writing about ego today? We all have an ego in us, but if you don’t tame or numb your ego, it will destroy so many things in your life. Ego, if not controlled or subdued, can rob you of your glory. God knew why he said we should humble ourselves at all times. Pride comes before a fall.
The yearning to write on ego was the strongest yesterday, and then I saw my former teacher had posted something on ego on his WhatsApp status. This was a confirmation for me to blog on this topic.
So what is ego? Ego is complex; it is the aspect of yourself that you consider you. Ego is clingy and self preservational. Unfortunately, with ego, your notion of you is highly illusional and fictitious. If your Ego is too big, it means you are not open-minded. You are too involved with the grandiosity of who you are. You get a better result in life when you numb your ego.
In biblical terms, humility is the opposite of ego. Dying to self is the only way to subdue the ego; it is the only way to numb your ego.
I was faced with some challenges in a particular season of my life, and one of the prayers I used to pray was for God to help me not be prideful despite the obstacles. I realized in this season that sparingly pride will rise inside of me. I had a clear understanding of the adverse effects pride can have on a man. To date, I pray that I never see myself as more important than anyone or look down on anyone.
A humble heart has no room for ego or pride or arrogance because it recognizes that all we have and all we are comes from God (Got questions Ministeries), as Paul reminded the Corinthians: “For who makes you different from anyone else? What do you have that you did not receive? And if you did receive it, why do you boast as though you did not?” (1 Corinthians 4:7).
According to Srinivas Shenoy, a relationship never dies a natural death; it is murdered by ego, attitude, and ignorance.
My prayer for you today is to learn humility by dying to yourself. Shalom
Adobea, (Imani)
Very true, pride comes before a fall of a man. If the son of man was so humble here on earth, who are we to be prideful
